The following 3 pics were taken in 2006~
Mason's 1st year of going out for Track.
The pics were taken at the
IL State Semi-Finals Track Meet~
Warsaw, IL.
Mason qualified at this Meet for his 1st trip to the
IL State Track Meet.
He ran very well this day~placing 1st in all
3 heats ran in the 100M in the 7th grade bracket.
He, however, was only in the 6th grade!!
Mason went out for Track his 6th, 7th, and 8th grade years.
He qualified in running events at the State Semi Finals each year,
earning him the opportunity and honor to compete at the
IL State Track Meet all 3 years he participated in Track.
We Are Proud Of You Mason!!!

Track
~2009~
Mason and Emily did not go out for track in 2009 as they opted to play Baseball and Softball instead.  However,
NFW Senior Derick Higgins
had an AWESOME 2009 Track Season.  Check out the following link to read the various stories regarding the 2009 Track Season.  There are several articles written solely about Derick and many others that make reference to him.
Congratulations Derick!!

When North Fulton senior Derick Higgins came out to the blocks for the Class 1A 110-meter hurdles Saturday during the boys track and
field state finals, the gigantic fan section from Elmhurst York began to chant, “Der-ick Hig-gins.” Why?  “Being from a little school, I’ve
always wanted a big, cheering crowd,” said Higgins, the only member of his team at the meet in Charleston. “While we were watching the 4x800, I told my mom to go up to some of the York kids and get them to cheer for me, just kidding. And then I heard that and it was awesome.”  Higgins, whose girlfriend actually sent the message to the fans, finished sixth in that race. But the York crowd at O’Brien
Stadium cheered loudly for him again as he accepted his state-championship medal in the 300 hurdles.  Considering the lack of facilities available to him for training, it’s remarkable he could win the state title at all.
North Fulton is a co-op between Cuba and Valley. Cuba doesn’t have a track and Valley’s is composed of cinders, which makes it too dangerous for Higgins to practice
there.  So he practiced in the halls at Cuba with indoor hurdles. And he traveled once every two weeks to Macomb, Rushville or Lewistown for practice on all-weather tracks and additional instruction from coaches a little more experienced in his specialty.~Jane Miller can be reached at 686-3207or jmiller@pjstar.com.
